Mobility Assistance
Mobility Assistance is designed to financially assist band members with new employment, job interviews and/or relocation expenses.
Funding
- Maximum funding for employment contracts 6 Months or Less – $300.00
- Maximum funding for employment contracts 6 Months or more – $600.00
- Maximum relocation expenses for new employment – $400.00
Types of support available
- 1-week living allowance costs
- Child Care costs
- Travel (including bus pass, parking pass)
- Work related clothing
- Personal protective equipment
- Some required tools
Band Members are eligible for Mobility Assistance funding once a year.
Skill Enhancement
Skill Enhancement is designed to financially assist band members with short-term career specific training that will enhance their skills and/or employability.
Short-term training is defined as: training that is maximum of fifteen (15) days in length or less (training does not have be in consecutive days, i.e., it can be every other weekend).
Funding
- Maximum of $1,600.00 for training related costs for unemployed Band Members;
- Maximum of $800.00 (or 50%) for training related costs for employed Band Members. Employed Band Members are encouraged to seek co-funding from their employers or other sources.

Course Purchase
Course Purchase funding is designed to assist band members with training initiatives that improve their employability and self-sufficiency.
WLMS does not fund employed band members, with the exception of:
- Apprentices who can apply every year (provided it is a continuation of previous training); and/or
- Band members who can demonstrate themselves to be underemployed:
- Underemployment for our purposes is defined as “the underutilization of a band member’s skills, experience and/or availability to work”.

- Requests greater than $22,000.00 must be approved by the WDC Board.
- Maximum of 1 year in duration.

Targeted Wage Subsidy
Targeted Wage Subsidy is a self-marketing and/or employer-based program designed to support on-the-job training/work experience for band members who encounter barriers when entering the labour force.
Those who apply must:
- Provide proof of WUT band membership;
- Must be unemployed, in receipt of Employment Insurance, Social Assistance, disability and/or have no source of income; or
- Demonstrate themselves to be underemployed:
- Underemployment for our purposes is defined as “the underutilization of a band member’s skills, experience and/or availability to work”.

Funding
- Maximum of $22,000.00 for training related costs;
- Requests greater than $22,000.00 must be approved by the WDC Board.
- Maximum of 52 weeks in duration.
Types of Supports Available
- A negotiated wage contribution to a maximum of 75% of wage and benefits i.e., WSIB, Employment Insurance, Canada Pension Plan, MERC (Minimum 30 hours per week to a maximum of 40 hours per week);
- Third party training contributions to a maximum of $800 per position
If eligible, clients may be extended for two years at 50% of wages and MERC. A third year is possible at 25% contribution from WLMS. Apprentices are eligible to apply every year and continue to be funded every year until they obtain the required hours set-out in their apprenticeship under the Ontario College of Trades Standards.
Waa-naang-izheyaanh Program
SSEP funding is a self-marketing and/or employer-based program designed to support on-the-job training/work experience for band members in post-secondary training.
Those who apply must:
- Have been in school full-time in the previous academic school year; and
- Returning to school full time in the new academic year;
- Should be related to their field of study.

Funding
- Maximum of 16 weeks in duration.
Types of Supports Available
- A negotiated wage contribution to a maximum of minimum wage ($14.00) including benefits i.e., WSIB, Employment Insurance, Canada Pension Plan, MERC (Minimum 30 hours per week to a maximum of 40 hours per week);
Band Members are eligible for Summer Student Experience Program funding every year they are in post-secondary training.
Self-Employment Assistance
The Self Employment Assistance (SEA) Program is intended to help band members create jobs for themselves through self-employment. Within the program entrepreneurs are provided with various types of support during their business start-up period. This support includes coaching, ongoing technical advice, and financial support.

- Ability to maintain their EI Benefits
- Receive a weekly allowance of $384.78
